Disney Channel was all the rage for the early 2000s adolescence. It had influence on every aspect of a child’s life because it was the only source of media they had access to.  Some common popular shows like Hannah Montana, That’s so Raven, Wizards of Waverly Place, The Suite Life of Zack and Cody, and many more shows with attractive, likable female leads left girls wanting to be more like them.

For instance, Ashley Tisdale from the Suite Life of Zack and Cody set the trend of gaucho pants, and lose neck ties. When looking at red carpet looks that happened around the time of the show, more celebrities wore lose neck ties and gaucho pants.

Several disney stars set the trend for dresses and jeans. Selena Gomez’s character, Alex Russo often wore a variation of this, as did Miley Cyrus’ character Miley Stewart on Hannah Montana. This trend can also be seen in the fashion world in following seasons.

Hannah Montana also single handily brought cow boy boots into fashion. Miley Cyrus was supposed to play a southern belle in California, but many just liked the fashion and followed in her footsteps.

The Wizards of Waverly Place star Selena Gomez, made it popular to wear funky scarves. Alex Russo often wore them, with her other trend setting statement, dresses and jeans.

Clearly early millennial fashion statements were influenced by Disney Channel characters in many ways. These leading ladies all play a large part in being the trend setters of an entire generation. It is because of the form of media known as television that this was possible.
